Heritage Education Link Program (HELP) Grants

In conjunction with the Golden Legacy Curriculum, the Chinese Historical & Cultural Project offers financial assistance for programs or events designed to promote ethnic diversity education for school age children in Santa Clara County, California.  The grants are limited to schools and nonprofit organizations in Santa Clara County, California.

HELP Grants for 2008
  • Chi-Am Circle Scholarship Program
    Co-sponsor a scholarship for on-going education to college.
    Student recipient to have background of promoting cultural heritage or Asian American studies
  • Asian Americans for Community Involvement
    (AACI) After School Youth Program - Sponsored an exhibition by "M Team",martial arts group
  • Wisdom, Education, Culture Organization
    Support for the 2008 Chinese Folk Arts Summer Camps
  • Mission College Library
    Support the Matching Grant Challenge towards purchases of books and materials for the Asian American Collection
  • Silver Creek High School Chinese Cultural Club
    Support a presentation of Chinese culture and contributions of Chinese Americans

2007 HELP Grantees

  • Wisdom, Culture and Education Organization (WECO) showcasing Chinese culture through an exhibition of ancient Chinese sports.
  • Chi-Am Circle Scholarship Program recognizing high school seniors who have demonstrated participation in activities promoting Asian culture or studies
  • Historic Chinese American Cemetery Corporation's celebration of Ching Ming, a traditional annual day to honor our ancestors
  • Foothill DeAnza College, Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute (APALI) field trips to various Asian American history sites
  • Japantown Community Congress of San Jose honoring community leaders for service and leadership of Asian American programs
  • Chinese Moon Festival at Overfelt Gardens' annual event to celebrate the Moon Festival, an annual autumn harvest moon celebration through children's art and music activities

  • Simonds Elementary School, San Jose
    Annual Multicultural Faire on April 29, 2005.
  • Portuguese Heritage Society of America, San Jose
    A 52-photo exhibit of Macau's unique blend of China and Portuguese architecture. This collaborative effort by the Portuguese Heritage Society of California, CASA de Macau USA, and History San Jose. The Exhibit will be open from April 15 through July 31.2005 in the Conference Room of History San Jose.

    Project: to bring both multi-cultural literature and various cultural Performance groups to the school to raise cultural awareness.

    Project: multi-cultural "discovery trunk" -- clothes, food and homes from around the world.

    Kindergarten Project: Thematically taught subjects including cooking and music -- Cinco de Mayo (Mexico), Children's Day (Japan), Chinese New Year (China).
  • Primary Plus School, San Jose
    Cooking Projects: 8 different countries, with supportive music, dance, stories, crafts activities from Greece, Japan, Italy, China, and Spain.
  • San Anselmo School, San Jose
    Project: Purchase of multi-cultural books and audio tapes.
  • James B. Randol Elementary School, San Jose
    Project: Program to write letters to Russian pen pals, prepare a video tape to mail to Russian penpals, study the music and literature of the Russian people, learn Russian folk songs and participate in a Russian tea party.
  • James B. Randol Elementary School, San Jose
    Diversity Day Project: Entire student body to celebrate diversity through a series of lessons and activities. Each class will share an activity-based lesson focused on a particular culture. Competed lessons will result in a cultural artifact reflective of the culture being studied.
  • San Jose Dance Theatre, San Jose
    Scholarship Project: to encourage full participation of ethnically diverse students in its professional training program; ethnic diversity in the artists and teachers of dance.
  • Pearl Zanker Elementary School, Milpitas
    Project: Various ethnic holidays around the world.
  • Chinese Performing Artists of America
    CPAA's mission is to introduce Chinese culture to the American society through performing arts. They perform mainly for schools in the Bay Area.
