"On the wedding day the main interest is provided by the bride. Everybody, except the elderly males, wants to have a peep at her; she sits practically motionless all day long, except when told to partake of food ceremonially with the bridegroom. At dusk the fervor centering around the bride runs even higher. The younger people, male and female, crowd into the bride and bridegroom's new room and make fun of them. The couple are compelled to perform stunts, to make gestures of intimacy, and so forth. And the merriment infects everyone present. It lasts until about midnight, and then the guests disperse after yet another meal, consisting of noodles, preserved sweets, peanuts, and tea."
