Re-Opening of Congressional Gold Medal Registration (thru Jan 11)

  • January 11, 2024
  • 5:00 PM
  • Online

The Chinese American WWII Recognition Project has re-opened the registration process to accept new applications for consideration to receive the U.S. Mint replica of the Chinese American Veterans of WWII Congressional Gold Medal. The application period will only be open from December 7, 2023 to January 11, 2024. No applications will be accepted after January 11, 2024, 5:00 pm PST.

Due to the generosity of prior recipients who donated their Medals back to the Project and several donors, a limited number of Medals are available for this FINAL open application period. Applications for consideration are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, using date/time stamp of the data management software. Since it is possible that due to the limited availability of Medal replicas, some approved applicants may not be presented during this final open period; however, the names of the approved Veterans will be listed on the CAWW2 Veterans website in their branch of service.

By applying, all applicants acknowledge the importance of accepting this Medal from one of many distinguished U.S. Army Generals and U.S. Navy Admirals at this once-in-a-lifetime Congressional Gold Medal ceremony to be held at the National WWII Museum and/or the Higgins Hotel in New Orleans on March 8-9, 2024.

For their uncommon valor and patriotism during their military service, it is most appropriate that the applicant who represents the Veteran (if deceased or unable to attend) shall understand the pride and dignity of this recognition on his/her behalf as it is presented to them by these dedicated, high-ranking officers.

BEFORE YOU APPLY, READ THE FOLLOWING:

  1. The applicant (or Primary Point of Contact Name) requesting consideration for the award must either be the Veteran, their spouse, immediate next of kin, or an individual authorized (via written signature authority) to act on behalf of the Veteran and family. The U.S. Mint replica Congressional Gold Medal is not given to any individuals or groups who apply without consent or knowledge of the Veteran or their family.
  2. All new applications must complete the registration form and submit as many of the verification items listed on the Veteran Registration Instructions that confirm WWII service from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946.
  3. Incomplete applications may be returned for an opportunity to correct or clarify information needed. A revision to complete the application automatically generates a new date/time stamp on the submission. Thus, keep in mind that the correction must be submitted before January 11, 2024, 5:00 pm PST.
  4. Applicants will be notified within 7-10 business days after submission, assuming all information is received in “good order.”
  5. It is highly recommended that the “Frequently Asked Questions” be read for additional information and guidance about the Project.  However, the FAQ may contain information only relevant to the original 2017-2021 initial period, such as in “Section III. Approval and Presentation of Medals” (which is described in the opening statements).
  6. If you have applied before May 31, 2021, received a letter of approval, but did not attend any ceremony, did not receive it at any pickup sites, and did not respond to prior requests to assume shipping costs but still wish to receive the Medal, this is a LAST AND FINAL call to receive the Veteran’s Medal.
  • You must send an email to: CGMCommittee@caww2.org. You must be the original applicant (Next-of-Kin), provide your contact information, including email, address (street, city, state, zip code), name of the veteran (exactly as it appears on our website), and branch of service. Submit this request by December 29, 2023.
  • In your request, you, as the next-of-kin, may also take advantage of the opportunity to attend a Ceremony in New Orleans from March 8-10.  Please state this intention.
